The ProSafe WNAP320 is a wireless access point that can simultaneously support wireless devices with interfaces that implement the new 802.11n in the 2.4 GHz frequencies and the legacy devices with 802.11g interfaces. The advantage of 11n is that it can achieve speeds several times greater than 11g and can cover a larger area. Typically, this access point covers an area with a radius of about 120 ft., although the actual coverage depends on the obstacles that the radio signal has to traverse to reach the wireless devices and the electromagnetic interference that is present in the coverage area.
Secure communication is provided through the implementation of the Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2), a security protocol issued by the Wi-Fi Alliance that complies with the IEEE 802.11i security standard. This protocol can be used with a Pre-shared Key (PSK) or with dynamically assigned keys from a server. WPA2 eliminates the weaknesses presented by the legacy WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) protocol that was implemented in earlier wireless systems. WPA2 also implements the AES encryption algorithm that complies with government security requirements.
Installing electrical outlets in unusual places to reach wireless access points is no longer necessary. The WNAP320 is Power-over-Ethernet (P-o-E) compliant, which allows P-o-E Ethernet switches to power the wireless access points through the data cable, according to the IEEE 802.3af standard. This results in a considerable reduction in the deployment costs of wireless networks.
This access point is designed to support up to 64 wireless users.
