ProSecure UTM Description

What distinguishes the NetGear ProSecure UTM (Unified Threat Management) series from other network protection solutions you may have encountered is that it provides an all-in-one solution to contain the various network threats through web filtering, intrusion prevention, stateful packet inspection, virtual private networks and much more, in a bundled package without per-user fees.

In addition, since new threats come on line all the time, the UTM updates its active list every hour from NetGear's URL Classification Center that analyzes in real-time the information collected from feeding points deployed all over the world at service providers. NetGear's Distributed Web Analysis automatically categorizes new sites, previously unknown, and blocks any sites that contain malware and other threats.

The same dynamic approach is used to eliminate spam. NetGear's Distributed Spam Analysis architecture continuously analyzes data from millions of sources world-wide, assessing distribution patterns and generating an identification, called "signature", as well as a pattern file. This strategy stops the threat before it can spread.

On the NetGear UTM, the Intrusion Prevention engine uses signature, protocol and anomaly-based methods to detect and block hackers' attempts to penetrate the network. At the same time, it blocks web application threats, buffer overflows and SQL database injections, greatly enhancing the security of the network.

In order to prevent the latency that these functions could produce, NetGear uses the patent-pending Stream Scanning Technology to scan the data stream as it enters the network instead of wating for the complete download before scanning.

As indicated earlier, these capabilities are provided under a bundled license that is in effect for one year from the activation date and that includes Maintenance provided by NetGear. At the expiration date, you will be able to renew the license for any period available at the time for your UTM.

As of the date of this release, there are 5 UTM models that share the above capabilities. The attached comparison table, provided by the manufacturer, gives you a view at a glance of the capacities built into each model.
